Dr. Carolyn Nemec, MD, IFMCP, is an American family physician, a women's health specialist, and is certified in functional medicine. She has over thirty years of experience in taking care of patients and is passionate about helping women feel their best.
Dr. Carolyn has now created a podcast just for women. So where did this idea come from? “Many women feel dismissed or overlooked in the traditional healthcare system,” Nemec says. “One of my goals is to give women more access to trusted medical information. If you are informed, you can be a true partner in your own health decisions.”
Dr. Carolyn in Cleveland: A Women’s Health Podcast, is dedicated to empowering women to take charge of their health. The podcast is built around authentic conversations about things that matter to women.
“When Jan Jones came as a guest on the show, we talked about how she saved herself from a deadly heart attack. She was so inspiring. That’s what I want to do––I want us to inspire each other.” Along with how to protect your heart, Nemec wants to talk about other issues that matter to women, like concerns about Alzheimer's disease and how to treat osteoporosis and autoimmune conditions, all much more common in women.
The podcast will feature groundbreaking insights into women’s health. To create the podcast, Nemec combines her extensive experience in primary care, women’s health, and her certification in functional medicine. “Over the years, I saw women being treated according to standard protocols. Some of these protocols came from studies that mainly included men. She began to ask questions. “What about looking at the real needs of women? And instead of just gynecology, what about looking at the entire woman?” In the past, she herself was guilty of focusing on disease. “We need to be more focused on wellness.”
Nemec believes that the way forward is through personalized care. This is especially true of women who’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer. For several years, Dr. Carolyn worked at the Cleveland Clinic’s Breast Center, learning everything she could about breast cancer. One thing she learned, was that women needed more support, especially during and after treatment.
Every patient needs to be asked an important question: What is it that you need to thrive?
Dr. Carolyn invites you to listen to her podcast and join her journey into wellness. Because life is more than just the absence of illness, it’s about cultivating positive vitality. “It’s time to live your best life,” she says.
